Kashmir: The Real Story
All of Kashmir, as it existed under King Hari Singh as a "princely state" prior to the partition of India (see maps: one, two), became an integral part of India, when the King signed an instrument of accession, just as 500-600 other princely states did in joining either India or Pakistan. For example, the ruler of Baluchistan also vacillated, and at some point wanted to join the Indian union, but was muzzled by Pakistan to accede with them; Pakistan is now busy butchering the Balochi people.
In Kashmir, when the King was in the process of making his decision on what course he wanted to take for his princely state (i.e. whether to join India, or Pakistan, or become an independent nation, which were the three options every princely state ruler was given per the protocol set up and agreed upon for the partition of India) post-partition, Pakistan broke the conditions of the standstill agreement it signed with him and invaded Kashmir using militias, to try and steal Kashmir by force from the King. That precipitated and created the Kashmir mess. In any case, just as Baluchistan is now a part of Pakistan, all of Kashmir, including the two portions being illegally occupied by China (Aksai Chin) and Pakistan (PoK) are legally part of India.

8. The persecution and ethnic-cleansing of Kashmiri Hindus/Pandits by Jihadi terrorists: Around 1988/1989, Pakistan infiltrated J&K with about 20,000 terrorists who killed and ethnic-cleansed Hindus from the valley. There used to be about a million Hindus in the valley, their ancient homeland of 5000+ years, pre-dating the arrival of Islam to the valley by 4000 years, before the spate of Jihadist violence was inserted by Pakistan about 20yrs ago. Now, only a few hundreds are left there, and some 500K to 600K have been forced to live under horrible conditions in refugee camps run by government of India in Jammu and Delhi, with their livelihoods stolen and an entire generation or two of Kashmiri Pandit/Hindu children deprived of futures. 9. The Jihadists wreaked havoc all around, making the lives of Muslims also miserable. Muslim Kashmiri Indians don't want the Jihadists around anymore. Rukhsana Kausar (a 20 year old Muslim Indian Kashmiri woman)'s heoric story: This 20-yr-old Kashmiri killed a militant, shot another, IE, link
